Well, sorry about being gone everyone, I've been preoccupied with other projects, but seeing as we're third in Google for "portable apps" :D, I've decided to give some attention to this project again. Unfortunately, at this time, I'm busy with coding a complex web application single-handedly (http://www.phenona.com/), and cannot give too much attention to this project. Here's some main points I want to cover:
- The current versions of the apps will probably not work. They fail when you try to create symlinks on FAT32 USB drives.
- We need to do a fundamental reworking of the Portable Apps for Linux architecture, probably closely modeling the Klik2 architecture (http://klik.atekon.de/wiki/index.php/Klik2). The apps would run in a FUSE environment, allowing changes to be kept in a portable manner.
- Since I do not have the time at this point to do this reworking, I am looking for a developer willing to help implement this. We already have a popular site (50 unique hits a day, 3rd in Google search), so all we need is some quality apps. If someone is willing to create this architecture, I will be more than happy to give you an account here to the Wiki, and upload and host the apps for you (the only requirement being that you document the implementation). Once the architecture is in place, the creation of the apps will be primitive, and I can take over from there.
So if you'd like to help out on a popular open source project, and you have a good idea of how this should work, please respond to this post, and we can discuss the implementation, and what problems might be encountered during development. Thank you all!
Best regards,
Daniil K, the PAFL guy.
